November 4, Fineko/abc.az. Global greenhouse gas emissions reached record levels in 2023, and countries will need to work together to reduce them by 42% by 2030 in order for the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement to remain achievable.
ABC.AZ informs that these are the conclusions of the new annual report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the emission gap.
The report confirms that in 2023, global emissions exceeded 57 gigatons for the first time in history, while an increase of 1.3% was recorded compared with the level of 2022.
China was the largest national emitter in 2023. This country produced 16,000 megatons of Co2 (5.2% more versus the previous year).
