November 21, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is considering the possibility of creating a new national park that will cover parts of the administrative territories of the liberated Shusha, Khojaly, Aghdere and Kalbajar districts.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting Deputy Minister of Ecology & Natural Resources Vugar Kerimov, as saying this at event "The link between climate and biodiversity: integrated solutions for a sustainable future" within COP29.

"We’ve already started the survey and assessment of the territories for the new national park, which will be an important step in preserving the ecosystems of the liberated territories," the deputy minister said.

Kerimov pointed out that the activities of the Basitchai State Nature Reserve with a total area of 43,000 hectares and the Dashalty State Nature Reserve, located in the occupation-liberated territories, have been restored.

He added that as part of the Action Plan on declaring 2024 the Year of Solidarity for a Green World, the process of creating two new national parks is being completed: Bozdag-Ajinokhursky with an area of 23,902 hectares and Ilisu, which was formed on the basis of the Ilisu State Nature Reserve on the territory of 13,966 hectares.

Besides, work is underway on creation of 10 micro-reserves for protection of rare species of flora, assigning the status of natural monuments to them, as well as creation of a geological park on the territory of a number of mud volcanoes, Kerimov said.
