December 18, Fineko/abc.az. "Azerbaijan's natural gas reserves amount to 2.6 trillion cubic meters. Taking into account the fact that for 30 years the oil field we have been developing, according to new estimated reserves, has reached 1.5 billion tons from 500 million tons, the same can be said about our gas fields."
ABC.AZ informs that President Ilham Aliyev said this in an interview with Dmitry Kiselyov, Director General of the International News Agency Rossiya Segodnya, answering his question "Does Azerbaijan need a nuclear power plant?"
"That is, 2.6 billion trillion is estimated reserves from a decade ago. It is clear that with such a volume of potential out of 25 billion. We do not need additional energy sources for cubic meters of export volume. In addition, in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, we have already implemented projects over the past 3 years to create small hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of about 300 MW, and in 2 years it will be 500 MW," Aliyev said.
According to the president, in addition, Azerbaijan is actively developing solar and wind energy, mainly due to foreign investments.
"The estimated reserves of the World Bank for wind energy in the Caspian Sea alone are 157,000 MW. By 2030, the signed contracts will give us 6,000 MW. This is part of the answer to your question," the president concluded.
