December 20, Fineko/abc.az. Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran have extended the ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species for 2025, ABC.AZ informs, referring to Rosrybolovstvo.
Earlier, the Commission on Conservation, Rational Use of Aquatic Bio-Resources of the Caspian Sea & Management of their Joint Reserves held a session, where reps of all Caspian littoral states met: Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
"The parties agreed to extend the ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species for 2025 and not to set export quotas for caviar and meat of sturgeon species for 2025. Next year, as before, sturgeon fishing will be carried out only for the purposes of scientific research and artificial reproduction," the statement says.
In order to protect fish stocks, the Caspian countries synchronize measures for fish conservation and artificial reproduction.
Rosrybolovstvo also informs that the Russian side has proposed holding a Forum of Fishermen of the Caspian Littoral States, as well as publishing the annual bulletin of the Caspian Commission and an anniversary collection of scientific articles on research of the Caspian Sea.
A relevant ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species was also in effect in 2024.
