January 13, Fineko/abc.az. The taste of rice in China, including its appearance and texture, has improved over the past 16 years, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the South China Morning Post.
"The rice taste assessment is based on the national standard, updated in 2008, which evaluates the harvest in terms of appearance, smell, deliciousness, taste and texture of cold rice to obtain an aggregate rating," the SCMP says.
Genetic improvements and control over growing conditions have played an important role in improving the quality of rice.
China is the largest rice producer in the world, accounting for 28% of total global production last year.
