January 15, Fineko/abc.az. The Czech Republic is ready to switch to a full cycle of oil supplies via the western route via the TAL and IKL pipelines, technological modifications for expansion of Italian oil pipeline TAL have been completed, ABC.AZ reports, quoting PM Petr Fiala.
"Expansion of TAL pipeline capacity has been finished. This will provide the republic with an additional 4 million tons of oil per year, meaning that the Czech Republic will be able to import up to 8 million tons of oil a year, which will cover all consumption in the country. We are no longer dependent on oil supplies from Russia," he said.
The Czech Republic consumes about 8 million tons of oil a year, about half of which is currently transported via Druzhba oil pipeline from Russia through Ukraine, and the rest via the IKL oil pipeline from Ingolstadt (Germany), which is connected to TAL oil pipeline running from the Italian port city of Trieste.
The cost of expanding TAL pipeline amounted to approx. 1.5 billion crowns (about $62.5 million), modernization was carried out in record time, and the operator of the Czech oil pipelines, MERO, undertook all costs.
