Meta again starts firing employees, ‘not meeting expectations’

11:55 - 12.02.2025

February 12, Fineko/abc.az. Meta has begun a new round of staff performance-based layoffs after announcing it in a memo last month. The purpose of these measures is to increase the efficiency of the company and redistribute resources to priority areas, in particular in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

ABC.AZ reports, citing Bloomberg, that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a memo that these dismissals are aimed at rejecting employees who "have not met expectations during the last 12 months of their employment". It is reported that this affected about 5% of the global Meta workforce, which is approximately 3,600 people.

However, workers from Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands will not be eligible for this phase of layoffs due to local regulations. Employees in Asia, Africa and other parts of Europe will receive notifications between February 11 and 18. According to Zuckerberg's promise, the vacant positions will be filled as early as 2025.
