China is ahead of U.S. in buying Vietnamese shrimps

February 19, Fineko/abc.az. China imported shrimps from Vietnam for $834 million by the end of 2024, ahead of the U.S. with an indicator of $756. Data from the Vietnamese Seafood Exporters & Producers Association (VASEP).

ABC.AZ reports that in total, Vietnam shipped shrimps for $3.9 billion abroad in 2024 (14% more than in 2023). Shrimps generated the largest revenue of all seafood, which was shipped for $10 billion. Pangasius is in second place, bringing in $2 billion.

The beginning of the year was marked by a sharp increase in sales of Vietnamese shrimps to China. In the first two weeks of January, exports jumped by 191% up to $51 million.

China remained a near-monopoly buyer of Vietnamese lobsters in 2024, with a share of about 99%. VASEP advises exporters to pay attention to lobsters and king crabs this year. These seafood products show steady demand.
