March 11, Fineko/abc.az. The wheat harvest in the 2024-2025 season in Kazakhstan will amount to 16.5 million tons (16% more than last year's figures). Forecast by the Overseas Agriculture Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
ABC.AZ reports that growth of production and demand from China allowed to increase exports of wheat and wheat flour to 10 million tons. Large quantities and low prices "help to displace Russia in the Caspian Sea and Central Asia".
Quality problems forced a reduction in the price of wheat from $168 per ton in mid-October to $100 per ton by the end of the year.
Rolling stocks are close to their highest levels in the last three years. Kazakhstan banned wheat imports from August to December 2024 in order to stabilize domestic prices. Deputy PM Serik Zhumangarin explained that attempts to regulate imports by other measures had failed, as wheat continued to arrive in Kazakhstan through unofficial channels at prices lower than locally produced grain.
