March 13, Fineko/abc.az. The change in trade flows will depend on the timing and degree of easing of sanctions against Russia, ABC.AZ reports, referring to S&P Global Ratings.

"After the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a significant part of European exports to Russia were routed through Central Asia and the South Caucasus. However, the impact of these countries on the current account balance was generally neutral, as imported goods with high added value were exported back to Russia. However, in particular for Kazakhstan, there was a serious reduction in these trade flows in 2024, mainly due to tougher sanctions and internal compliance requirements. In the long term, increased investments in transport and logistics, trade services and local production will provide economic benefits to the countries of the region, even with a decrease in trade flows to Russia," S&P says.
