March 17, Fineko/abc.az. Despite the complex processes in world politics, Russia and Azerbaijan remain strategic allies and adhere to the principles of good neighborliness. This was discussed at meetings during the official visit to Baku of a delegation of Russian lawmakers led by chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko on March 16-17.
ABC.AZ informs that according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, bilateral trade with Russia in 2024, having shown negative dynamics in the first months, increased by 10.1 percent by the end of the year and amounted to almost $4.8 billion.
"At the same time, countries increasingly rely on national currencies for mutual settlements, and their share in the structure of trade payments is growing. At the beginning of 2024, they accounted for 54 percent of the total volume of trade transactions between the two countries. And last July, President Ilham Aliyev said that the share of payments in manats and rubles for Azerbaijani exports to Russia was about 70 percent, and for Russian exports to Azerbaijan — 50 percent. We have every opportunity to trade not for four billion a year, but for eight, ten billion (US dollars; editor's note)," Matvienko stated.
