March 19, Fineko/abc.az. Russia is actively moving towards development of its lithium resources, seeking to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen its position in production of high-capacity electric batteries.

ABC.AZ informs that according to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, by 2030 it is planned to produce at least 60,000 tons of lithium carbonate annually.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, in 2024, lithium reserves in the Russian Federation were estimated at about 1 million tons, which puts the country in 14th place in the world in this indicator.

However, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reports the availability of 3.5 million tons of lithium oxide, which indicates significant potential for development of the industry.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that Russia should accelerate plans to develop lithium deposits.
