April 17, Fineko/abc.az. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted to the parliament a draft amendment significantly tightening migration legislation. Speech is about the rules of stay of foreigners in the country, asylum procedures and mechanisms of expulsion.
ABC.AZ informs that the main changes are as follows: expulsion of foreigners and the ban on entry into the country for certain period of time will be fixed in the criminal and administrative codes; increased fines for violating the migration regime; simplified deportation procedure - speeding up the expulsion process for those illegally staying in Georgia.
Among the changes in asylum issues, it is noted: accelerated consideration of applications for refugee status if the application is not submitted immediately after entry; the ability to consider the application right at the border - without admission to the territory of the country if there are grounds to consider entry a threat to state security; electronic format of decisions and limited time for appeal; refusal of a residence permit for those who He is under the procedure of expulsion.
The Ministry emphasizes that the bill was drafted in accordance with the directives of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.
Currently, decisions on deportation are made by the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the court. Foreigners are given up to 30 days to leave voluntarily. In case of refusal, compulsory measures are applied, including readmission to the country of citizenship or the country of departure.
