May 7, Fineko/abc.az. This year and in the next decade, Turkey's tourism sector may break records: the country expects an increase in travelers' expenses and significant contribution of the industry to national GDP.
ABC.AZ reports that this forecast is provided by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
Tourism in Turkey is expected to grow rapidly: according to WTTC forecasts, by 2035 industry's contribution to country's GDP will grow to ₺7 trillion, or almost 13%. As early as 2025, revenues from the sector will reach ₺5.2 trillion, or 12% of GDP.
Despite decrease in spending by foreign tourists in 2024, the total revenue of the industry increased by 8.3% and reached ₺2.19 trillion. The number of tourists increased by 6.95%.
Turkey's revenues from the travel industry in 2025 are expected to reach ₺5.2 trillion (€119 billion), or 12% of country's GDP, which is ₺200 billion (€4.5 billion) more than a year earlier.
