May 12, Fineko/abc.az. Newly-elected Pope Leo XIV has announced preparations for a visit to the Turkish city of Iznik on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea.

ABC.AZ informs that the pontiff stated about this in an interview with journalists.

Pope Leo XIV's predecessor, Pope Francis, last year announced his plans to visit one of them in honor of the anniversary of the cathedral, but did not manage to make this trip.

Answering a journalist's question about these plans, the head of the Catholic Church confirmed that the Vatican is preparing for his visit to Turkey on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the Council.
