May 15, Fineko/abc.az. The Kazakh authorities are considering the possibility of turning the country into a crypto center to increase tax revenues.
ABC.AZ reports that according to Kanysh Tuleushin, First Vice Minister of Digital Development, mining can contribute to the modernization of the energy system and the utilization of associated petroleum gas.
In three years, mining brought in $34.6 million to the budget. From 2025, 75% of the miners' assets will be sold through the Astana International Finance Center exchanges. In 2023, the volume of cryptocurrencies in the AIFC increased to $1.4 billion.
Tuleushin believes that the lifting of restrictions on crypto trading outside the AIFC and the introduction of flexible rules across the country can bring up to 190 billion tenge ($372.9 million) per year.
The authorities are also fighting the shadow market: in 2024, 36 illegal crypto exchanges were closed and more than 3,500 exchangers blocked.
