May 16, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Department of Commerce has recommended to international companies to decline from the use of AI chips of China’s Huawei, saying they could have been developed in violation of U.S.’ export controls.
ABC.AZ informs that three models are subject to restrictions - Ascend 910B, 910C and 910D. According to the agency, these chips "most likely contain American technologies or were manufactured using them".
The use of such chips may entail criminal and administrative measures such as fines, imprisonment, loss of export privileges or other restrictions, the statement says.
Huawei is actively developing AI chips in China. By the end of the year, the company plans to release a new Ascend 920 processor, which could be an alternative to Nvidia's H20 chip banned in China.
