Over 6 million manats stolen from bank cards in Azerbaijan for past 4 months

May 21, Fineko/abc.az. In the first 4 months of 2025, cybercriminals stole more than 6 million manats from citizens' bank cards in Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting Hikmet Mammadov, the head of the Information & Cybersecurity Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, as saying this at the Cybersecurity conference in Nakhchivan.

According to Mammadov, cyberspace poses a real threat to the economy, and every citizen, regardless of their status, should be attentive.

"In 2024, as a result of card fraud, citizens suffered damage in the amount of more than 22 million manats. And in the first 4 months of 2025, this figure exceeded 6 million manats. Analysis and research on each fact show that cybercrime was the result of the interception of personal information of bank cardholders by various methods and means."

The head of the department stressed that preventive educational work is useful for improving the cyber literacy of citizens.

According to his statement, educational, operational, investigative and investigative activities continue continuously, as well as international relations are actively developing. Joint operations and information exchange are carried out jointly with INTERPOL, EUROPOL and other organizations, especially in the fight against cross-border cybercrime.
