Politico: EC plans to raise tourist tax for citizens of U.S. and UK

June 18, Fineko/abc.az. The European Commission is considering raising the tourist tax for U.S. and British citizens to partially cover EU's debt of €350 bn, accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABC.AZ informs that the matter will be discussed on July 16 at the budget meeting. Germany opposes, believing that the measure may scare away tourists.

The increased tourist tax will be able to bring less than €1 bn a year to the community budget, which is not enough to cover the costs of recovery from COVID-19.
