June 23, Fineko/abc.az. Despite the growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Chinese entrepreneurs remain interested in the region.
ABC.AZ reports that according to CNBC, shipments from China to the Dubai logistics hub increased by 20% compared to last year, with batteries and consumer goods in particular demand.
China sees the Middle East as a promising destination amid trade disputes with the U.S. Beijing's foreign policy steps, including mediation in restoring relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, strengthen the country's position.
According to economists, despite the risks in the Strait of Hormuz and the threat of secondary sanctions, the escalation in the region is unlikely to last. At that, China condemned the U.S.’ strikes on Iran, but itself restricted trade with it due to sanctions pressure.
Experts believe that in the event of de-escalation and easing of sanctions, thousands of Chinese companies are ready to invest in tourism, construction and infrastructure in Iran.
