Indian engineers present aircraft project with external AI-based airbags

September 12, Fineko/abc.az. Indian engineers have developed a new artificial intelligence–based safety system to prevent future aviation accidents. According to ABC.AZ, the system “uses smart airbags that absorb impacts and provide reverse thrust in the air, turning fatal crashes into landings that people can survive.”

AI sensors can detect when an accident is imminent, triggering the airbags to deploy and wrap around the fuselage. Theoretically, this protective cushion ensures that the landing will not be fatal or traumatic for passengers, regardless of the aircraft’s speed, The New York Post clarifies.

Engineers say that the airbags can be added to existing aircraft or installed in new ones, and they plan to “collaborate with aerospace laboratories for crash sled and wind tunnel testing.”
