September 24, Fineko/abc.az. It is expected that the growth of freight traffic along the Middle Corridor will exceed 50 million tons.
ABC.AZ reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Presidential Administration's Foreign Policy Department, made this statement, when delivering speech at the 6th Caspian Business Forum "Along the Middle Corridor: Communications, Finance and Energy", organized by the Caspian Political Center, in New York.
According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan is making additional investments for this purpose.
"The cargo handling capacity of the Baku port is 25 million tons per year, and work is underway to expand these capabilities," he added.
Hajiyev noted that implementation of the railway project from Baku to Zangilan and the border with Armenia began in 2020 and is scheduled for completion by mid-2026.
"Work is also underway on the 42-km section of the Zangezur corridor located in Armenia. Our partners from the U.S. participate in them. The third segment covers Nakhchivan. Additional investments are also being made here, and we invite other international partners, including European countries, to cooperate. The main goal is to turn the South Caucasus into space of cooperation," he emphasized.
