October 8, Fineko/abc.az. The Czech Republic recognizes the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor as a sustainable and reliable route for Eurasian transit, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka.
"Our priority is to support multimodal transport solutions and participate in relevant projects, including cooperation with Azerbaijan and other regional partners," Kupka said.
The minister recalled that Czech companies had previously participated in railway corridor project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) and remained interested in future cooperation.
"The Middle Corridor is especially important because it offers a route bypassing Russia," he added.
Kupka stressed that the Czech Republic welcomes initiatives to strengthen cooperation between logistics operators and port infrastructure, including large European hubs.
"We see potential in developing ties with the Baku International Seaport, especially in the context of the Middle Corridor and transit from East Asia to Europe. In addition, the Czech Republic is closely following the development of the Alat Free Economic Zone and recognizes its potential as a regional logistics and investment hub. Opportunities for cooperation are being explored in line with our strategic interests in connectivity and innovation," the minister said.
Kupka stressed that the project is also presented to potential investors in the Czech Republic, reflecting their interest in creating mutually beneficial partnerships.
The minister also noted that the Czech Republic is open to exploring opportunities for cooperation in development of transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan within the international agreements and if there is mutual interest.
"Czech transport and construction companies have a long tradition of international cooperation. In general, the Czech Republic welcomes international participation in development of its infrastructure. Currently, Azerbaijani companies are not involved in major projects, but we see potential for expanding cooperation," Kupka added.
