Durov warns about ‘dystopian world’ where states deprive users of their privacy rights

October 10, Fineko/abc.az. We are approaching a "dark, dystopian world" in which governments are gradually stripping users of their privacy rights, ABC.AZ reports, quoting the creator of Telegram, Pavel Durov.

According to Durov, "once free countries" have recently introduced more and more "gloomy" measures.

As an example, he cited the introduction of a national digital identification system in the UK.

The authorities believe this will help combat illegal employment and simplify access to important public services. Citizens opposed the so-called BritCards, comparing the idea to the plots of George Orwell's books.

Immediately after the announcement, a petition appeared on the government's website, which at the time of writing had been signed more than by 2.8 million people.

Durov also mentioned Australia. An age verification system will be introduced there from December 2025. It will cover almost all digital services, from search engines and social networks to app stores and AI assistants.
