October 15, Fineko/abc.az. Russia has no plans to comply with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on payments of more than 250 million euros to Georgia.
ABC.AZ informs that Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov made this statement at a briefing on October 15.
Russia's refusal to comply with the ECHR verdict on compensation to Georgia is conditioned by country's withdrawal from court's jurisdiction in 2022. This step was formalized by a special law after Russia left the Council of Europe. The Kremlin, as previously stated by Vladimir Putin, considers the decisions of the ECHR as politicized and biased, which was the main reason for their non-enforcement.
The ECHR ordered Russia to pay over 253 million euros to Georgia as compensation for the consequences of the 2008 conflict.
