October 16, Fineko/abc.az. The American administration expects Japan to abandon purchases of Russian oil.

ABC.AZ reports that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced this on October 16 at a meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato.

Bessent wrote on his account on X that "important issues related to economic relations between the U.S. and Japan, as well as administration's expectations that Japan will stop importing Russian energy resources" were discussed at the meeting.

According to Bessent, in addition to the energy issue, topics of investment cooperation were discussed with his Japanese counterpart.
