Turkey received over $3.5 bn from bidding for 5G cellular networks

October 17, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey received more than $3.5 bn from a tender procedure for fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks, ABC.AZ reports quoting Turkish Transport & Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu.

On the eve of the tender procedure, he informed that the starting bid price would be $2.125 bn, and the authorities do not expect less than this amount based on their results. NTV clarifies that net revenues to the Turkish treasury amounted to $2.945 bn. Including VAT, this amount grew up to $3.534 bn.

11 frequency packages were sold to telecom companies at the auction. Five of them were acquired by the mobile operator Turkcell, four by Turkish Telecom, and two by Vodafone.

The launch of 5G networks in Turkey is planned from April 1, 2026
