November 6, Fineko/abc.az. Excise taxes on cigarettes and cigars may be increased in Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports that this is reflected in the draft budget package for 2026. As stated in the document, the relevant amendments are to be introduced into the Tax Code.

The amendments stipulate an increase in excise rates on cigars, cigars with cut ends and cigarillos (thin cigars), as well as cigarettes made from tobacco and its substitutes from 45.5 manats to 55 manats per 1,000 cigarettes (a rise of 20.9%).

In such cases, the price of cigarettes is usually increased either naturally or artificially by entrepreneurs. This means that even after the news of a possible increase in excise rates, businessmen can take advantage of this and raise cigarette prices.

If to take into account that this has happened several times before, it becomes clear that in the near future, an increase in the price of cigarettes is inevitable.
