November 20, Fineko/abc.az. Iran and Russia have agreed to establish the first joint maritime consortium aimed at strengthening trade, transport and transit ties.
ABC.AZ informs that the agreement was reached during negotiations in early November 2025 in Makhachkala, with the participation of representatives of port authorities, large logistics companies and authorities of both countries.
Saeed Rasouli, Deputy Minister of Transport of Iran and Head of the Organization of Ports and Shipping, and Dmitry Zverev, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia participated in the discussion. They agreed on the structure of the consortium and its framework, and also agreed to prepare an official text of the agreement within the next month. The main task of the consortium will be the organization of sea transportation across the Caspian Sea, including container transportation, as well as integration with international transport corridor North–South.
The diplomats stressed the strategic importance of the initiative: the consortium will facilitate the simplification of customs procedures, the harmonization of port tariffs and the development of infrastructure for low-security and perishable goods.
