Canada and India close to concluding a 10-year agreement on uranium supply for $2.8 bn

November 25, Fineko/abc.az. Canada and India are finalizing an agreement on uranium supplies to New Delhi as part of broader bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

ABC.AZ informs, referring to The Globe and Mail, that "the value of the export deal, designed for nearly 10 years, will be approx. $2.8 bn".

The uranium will be supplied by Canadian company Cameco Corp.

According to a statement from the Indian government, "both sides confirmed their long-standing cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and noted the ongoing negotiations on expanding cooperation, including through long-term agreements on the supply of uranium". Two countries' partnership in this area may include Canada's creation of a small modular reactor.

According to the World Nuclear Association, there are around 25 nuclear reactors operating in India, six are under construction. Many of the operating reactors are heavy-water pressurized reactors developed on the basis of Canadian project Candu.
