December 5, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan Railways has completed design work on the reconstruction and modernization of railway infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Arif Aghayev, deputy chairman at Azerbaijan Railways.

He noted that at the moment, construction work has begun on the site near the border with Armenia, on the territory of the Salammelik station in Ordubad district: “Construction works cover a railway line with length of 188 km. The goal is to create a new railway network that meets modern requirements. After completion of the overhaul, the annual capacity of the railway will be 15 million tons. As you know, on August 8, 2025, in Washington, President Ilham Aliyev signed a historic agreement on the opening of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). As part of this agreement, rail service along the corridor will be restored. The Zangezur Corridor, being an important part of the Middle Corridor, is assessed as a key route for cargo transportation between Europe and Asia. This corridor will also become one of the main branches of the North-South transport route.”
