January 6, Fineko/abc.az. OpenAI paid each employee a New Year's bonus in the form of $1.5 million worth of company shares.

ABC.AZ reports, with reference to The Wall Street Journal, that the payout was a record for the U.S. and turned out to be nearly 34-fold higher than the average premium level in the largest technology companies.

The publication notes that generous bonuses help retain key specialists against the backdrop of fierce competition in the field of AI, but at the same time increase the company's losses and dilute shareholders' shares.

According to internal documents, OpenAI's spending on bonuses in promotions will increase by around $3 billion annually until at least 2030. In 2025, the cost of these payments will make up to 46% of company's overall earnings.
