Azerbaijan exported 500 million cu m of natural gas to Syria in 2025

January 12, Fineko/abc.az. Last year, 500 million cu m of natural gas were exported from Azerbaijan to Syria.

As a whole, gas exports from Azerbaijan amounted to 25.2 bcm in 2025, ABC.AZ informs with reference to the Ministry of Energy. In 2025, 12.8 bcm of exported gas were transported to Europe, 9.6 bcm to Turkey (including 5.6 bcm via TANAP), and 2.3 bcm to Georgia.

Compared to 2024, gas exports from Azerbaijan to Europe decreased by 100 million cu m (-0.8%) last year, to Turkey - by 300 million cu m (-3%) (exports via TANAP remained at the same level), and to Georgia - by 100 million cu m (-4.1%).

Notably, starting from August 2, 2025, the export of Azerbaijani gas through Turkey to Syria was launched. At the first stage of the project, it is planned to export 1.2 bcm of natural gas per year to Syria. The gas is delivered through the Turkish city of Kilis to power plants in Aleppo and Homs and is used to generate electricity. As a result of this process, it is expected to achieve electric power generation capacity of 1,200-1,300 MW.
