Czech PM urges EU to take a pragmatic approach in ‘green’ policy

February 3, Fineko/abc.az. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, in a letter to EU politicians, called for focusing on reducing CO₂ emissions and postponing the launch of the ETS 2 system, which will extend quotas for transport and heating.

ABC.AZ reports that he stressed that the high prices of ETS 1 quotas are destroying the industry, and the additional tasks of the "green" agenda are limiting national solutions.

Industry Minister Karel Havlicek supported Babis, noting the risk of a repeat of ETS 1 scenario and an increase in the gap between households with different incomes. ETS 1 has been operating since 2005 in the energy, energy-intensive industries and aviation; ETS 2 was planned for 2027, but the launch was postponed to 2028.
