Amazon returns offline: Mega-stores as Walmart's answer

February 5, Fineko/abc.az. Amazon, which has long been ahead of Walmart due to online trading, is changing its strategy and focusing on large offline stores.

ABC.AZ informs that the company closed formats Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go, converting them into Whole Foods, and opened the first megastore with an area of 225,000 square feet near Chicago - with groceries, consumer goods and a same-day delivery function.

Analysts expect Amazon's revenue from physical stores to grow 5.4% up to $5.9 billion in the 4th quarter. Despite the growth of AWS, retail remains a key part of the business: customers who purchase products and consumer goods bring the greatest lifetime value.

However, experts doubt that betting offline will be a long-term advantage. Meanwhile, Walmart is strengthening its position with a network of 4,600 stores and program Walmart+, which allows it to provide pickup and delivery faster and cheaper, putting pressure on Amazon in the struggle for the market of everyday goods.
