OpenAI accuses DeepSeek and Russia of copying American AI models

February 13, Fineko/abc.az. OpenAI has informed the American Congress that its Chinese competitor DeepSeek uses leading American AI models to train its neural networks.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to a letter from the OpenAI leadership to the Special Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and China.

In the document, OpenAI accused DeepSeek of using so-called distillation methods - the Chinese model is trained to reproduce the behavior of another, more advanced and complex neural network. According to OpenAI's observations, distilling is most often resorted to in China and sometimes in Russia (Bloomberg does not cite the names of any Russian companies).

It has not yet been possible to stop such practices, they are becoming more sophisticated, the authors of the letter claim.
