February 13, Fineko/abc.az. In Azerbaijan, in order to expand the opportunities of municipalities, it is necessary to strengthen their financial support.

ABC.AZ informs that MP Vugar Bayramov announced this at today's plenary session of the parliament.

He added that the State Budget allocated 7.5 million manats to local governments in 2025. Taking into account the fact that there are 685 municipalities in the country after the amalgamation, this amounts to an average of 10,950 manats per year for each municipality, or 912 manats per month. The MP stressed that this indicates the need to strengthen financial support for municipalities and diversify extra-budgetary sources of financing.

He also noted that last year revenues from land and property taxes of municipalities grew by 26%: "This is certainly a positive moment, and strengthening the financial independence of municipalities can contribute to the expansion of their activities. On the other hand, determination and allocation of the amount of subsidies is based on quantitative criteria, but other qualitative indicators must also be taken into account, including the effectiveness of municipalities. The allocation of funds from the State Budget should be more based on quality indicators."
