Tajikistan launches first large 500 MW solar project on

17:43 - 14.01.2026

January 14, Fineko/abc.az. The implementation of the first large-scale solar project with capacity of 500 MW has begun in Tajikistan.

ABC.AZ informs that the investment agreement was signed between the government and private company Aen Energy, which is responsible for the full cycle - from design to commissioning.

The choice of locations is conditioned by the high level of solar insolation, vacant land and access to the power grid. The project will diversify country's energy mix, reduce dependence on hydroelectric power plants, lower electricity shortages in autumn and winter, and cut CO₂ emissions by hundreds of thousands of tons annually.

Construction will create jobs, and operation will provide qualified positions. The project is to be completed by the end of 2026 and will be a signal to foreign investors about development of the renewable energy market in the country.
