January 16, Fineko/abc.az. Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson has started negotiations with local trade unions. The company explained that the staff reduction is part of “global initiatives” aimed at reducing costs while maintaining investments in technology.
ABC.AZ informs that as of December 31, 2025, the total number of employees of the company was about 90,000 people, of which nearly 12,600 ones worked in Sweden.
The agency recalls that the group also made cuts in the country in 2023 (1,400 people) and in 2024 (1,200 people). The Wall Street Journal notes that the pace of investment in 5G in the industry is slowing down: some large customers have already completed the initial network deployment phase, while operators are cautiously investing amid uncertain economic prospects.
The companies also faced difficulties related to the duties imposed by the U.S. on Ericsson related to the purchase of components and materials. A representative of the Swedish group told the publication that the mobile network market has not yet shown growth. As inflationary pressures are expected to persist, the company is forced to cut costs.
