February 16, Fineko/abc.az. The Argentine Chamber of Deputies has approved the trade agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Union by a majority vote.
ABC.AZ informs that 203 deputies voted for the bill and 42 ones against; the document has now been sent to the Senate.
The agreement was supported by the ruling party and the Socialists as a step towards openness and integration, but criticized by leftists and supporters of the Kirchners because of a possible blow to industry and job cuts.
South American farmers will be the main beneficiaries, and the EU has prepared protective measures. The Senate will consider the document before the end of the month; if it is approved, Argentina will become the first country in the bloc ready for the temporary application of the pact by Europe.
