March 13, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan's strategic position makes the country the center of the East-West and North-South transport corridors.

ABC.AZ informs that Shahmar Movsumov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Department for Economic Affairs and Policy of Innovative Development of the Presidential Administration, said this, when delivering speech at a panel discussion on the topic "The Middle Corridor and the path to Eurasian Connectivity", held within the XIII Global Baku Forum.

He noted that based on the long-term strategic vision of President Ilham Aliyev, the country is continuously developing these routes. By ensuring political stability and long-term peace in the region, Azerbaijan has accelerated investments in infrastructure.

Movsumov added that the Baku Port has already become the main logistics center of the Caspian region, and 4.7 million tons of cargo were transported from the country last year. The Middle Corridor was put into operation six years ago, and now an average of one block train runs daily between Europe and China.

According to the presidential aide, the Middle Corridor plays an important role not only in cargo transportation, but also in energy and digital infrastructure. He noted that the Southern Gas Corridor supplies Azerbaijani gas to 16 countries thanks to the TANAP and TAP projects. The Black Sea electric cable, being a new project, will connect the power grids of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary and will allow for large-scale transmission of eco-friendly energy.
