Top 5 is closed by Google co-founders (now the company is called Alphabet) Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who lost almost $45 bn each, as Alphabet shares fell by 39% in 2022.

On 31 December, Bloomberg estimated that Elon Musk became the first person in the world to lose $200 bn. His fortune declined amid a drop in shares of electric car manufacturer Tesla.
