SOCAR to cut carbon emissions

January 10, Fineko/abc.az. SOCAR intends to reduce carbon emissions to zero in 2022, ABC.AZ reports, citing SOCAR vice president for ecology Rafiga Huseynzade.

 “We’ve been working on this since 2010 as part of the World Bank's program to lower the burning of associated gas. Whereas in 2012, carbon emissions from SOCAR deposits made up 9-10%, recently this figure has decreased to 2%. In 2022, we’ll reach the level of carbon neutrality,” she said.

According to the vice president, the waste is related only to the process of hydrocarbon production.
