July 18, Fineko/abc.az. The great potential of alternative energy generation in Azerbaijan is already highly appreciated by the EU.

ABC.AZ reports that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated about this following the signing of he Memorandum on strategic partnership in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the European Commission.

President Aliyev noted that the EU has already assessed the great potential of renewable energy production in Azerbaijan

"We’ve already started investing in wind and solar energy. We made the first assessment of our capabilities. In the liberated regions of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, the potential of solar and wind energy is 9200 MW and the wind potential in the Caspian Sea is 157 gigawatts. We really have a huge resource base," he said.
