Azerbaijan climbs by 14 steps - Vusal Gasimli

October 29, Fineko/abc.az. In Global Competitiveness Index 2019 Azerbaijan rose by 14 positions and took 43rd place among 125 countries.

Thus, according to these indicators, Azerbaijan occupies a leading position in the post-Soviet space, except for the Baltic States.

ABC.AZ reports that commenting on this ranking, Vusal Gasimli, Doctor of Economics and the executive director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms & Communications, said that out of the post-Soviet countries, Russia and Kazakhstan are neighboring with Azerbaijan. They occupy 49th and 57th places respectively.

In 2015-16 Azerbaijan ranked 71st position in this index, 66th in 2017, and 57th in 2018. According to the GCI of talents, Azerbaijan is in Top 3 of countries with high middle income and ranks 7th among the countries of West Asia and North Africa.

The GCI is calculated on the basis of six indicators: the conditions created for talent, talent attraction, talent development, ensuring the presence of talent in the country, professional and technical education, and high specialization. Azerbaijan received the highest rating in terms of "Professional & Technical Education" (25th place), and the lowest in terms of "Talent Development" (81st place).

According to other indicators, the picture is as follows: in terms of conditions created for talent, Azerbaijan ranks 48th, in terms of attracting talent 44th, in terms of ensuring the presence of talent in the country 41st, and in terms of high specialization 68th.
