Growth observed on number of bank cards


September 22, Fineko/abc.az. The number of bank cards in Azerbaijan increased for past 8 months.

According to the CBA, the payment card growth made up 16% on debit cards and 25.2% on credit cards.

Compared with the same term of last year, the quantity of salary cards grew by 165,000, credit cards by 257,000, and others by 1.1 million cards.

The increase in the number of payment cards has had positive impact on non-cash payments. Thus, the non-cash transactions within the country increased by 62.3% against Jan-Aug 2020.

Over the past 8 months of 2021 the non-cash payments by cards amounted to AZN 6.94 bn. The non-cash payments for AZN 3.278 bn accounted for electronic commerce. Of the remaining amount, payments for AZN 2.439 bn were conducted through POS terminals and for AZN 377 million through cash machines.

In August, the non-cash domestic transactions with payment cards made up 31.5% of the total volume of transactions.
