Azerbaijan starts receiving proposals for joining railway project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars


January 11, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan has commenced work on attraction of countries to international railway project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.

At Cabinet Ministers’ meeting President Ilham Aliyev stated that opening of railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars was an important event not only for Azerbaijan but also for the region and for the world.

"The project will transform and already makes Azerbaijan one of the international transport centers. For a short time – just for two months after the opening of the railroad we received from many countries the proposals concerning the accession to the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail project. I’ve personally discussed this matter with several colleagues. Now, relevant tasks have been given on creation of workgroups with many countries and analyze cargo capacity of those who wish to join this line," he said.

He added that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate successfully with all partners within this project.

"We’ve taken important steps on transport corridor North-South. Azerbaijan fulfilled its task, provided construction of the railway line to the border with Iran. It also built a railway bridge. Thus, Azerbaijan took all the necessary measures relating this project and is ready to contribute to general implementation of the project," President Aliyev said.
