Azerbaijan marks Independence Day

Today, Azerbaijan is marking the Independence Day.

The Independence Day of Azerbaijan is celebrated on the day of adoption of the Constitutional Act on State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the Soviet Union and establishment of the foundations of the state, political and economic structure of independent Azerbaijan Republic by the Supreme Council of the Republic in 1991.

According to this document, Azerbaijan is the successor the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic that existed from 28 May 1918 to 28 April 1920.
