Speaker: Return of former IDPs to start from this year

May 17, Fineko/abc.az. "Currently, the entire infrastructure destroyed during the occupation is being restored. New towns and villages are being built in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, which have been declared a green energy zone. The return of former internally displaced persons will begin starting from this year."

ABC.AZ reports that parliament speaker Sahiba Gafarova stated this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

According to Gafarova, the biggest obstacle to the ongoing work is the numerous mines buried on the lands liberated from the Armenian occupation: "After the signing of the trilateral statement on 10 November, more than 210 civilians and military personnel were killed as a result of numerous mine explosions. Despite the fact that Armenia has declared acceptance of the 5 basic principles put forward by Azerbaijan, there are no steps on the part of Armenia. Azerbaijan is ready to start peace talks. Armenia should understand that it must fulfill its obligations."
