October 13 survey, Fineko/abc.az. The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms & Communications has published a study on the serious problem of migration in Armenia.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Agency that since the day of its independence Armenia, which has the population of about 3 million people, is still experiencing acute demographic problems.

"According to the UN report on international migration for 2019, the population of Armenia has decreased by about 16% from 1990 to the present day. This trend towards a sharp decline is associated with a decrease in the birth rate in the country, and, more importantly, with an increase in the level of migration. According to the 2018 estimates, the net migration rate in this country was negative and amounted to 5.6 migrants per every 1,000 people.

The overall socio-demographic picture in Armenia allows us to state that the steady nature of emigration can become an exhaustive factor for this country, and this is already happening. Demographers are alarmed to say that Armenia is “aging”, and one of the main reasons for this is migration. Looking at the distribution of people from the country by age group, we see that the problem is even deeper," the study notes.
